The founder, David Grossett [1901-1995], upon completion of his formal education at Balfour Street school in 1915 served his butchery apprenticeship with Mr. Howe, a Dundee butcher whose shop was in the Hawkhill/West Port part of the city.
In 1923 he emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in the United States of America,where he worked as a journey-man butcher before returning to his home city of Dundee in 1932 and opened his first butcher shop on Blackness Road.

Upon his retirement he turned the business over to his two youngest sons, Gilbert and Brian.
The firm was formed into a partnership named G & B Grossett and continued to serve quality meat and bakery products to its customers.

More recently, Gilbert M. Grossett, Gilbert Grossett's elder son, assumed control the company upon the retirement of his father and uncle and is now known as Grossetts of Tayside.
The business has garnered a good deal of recognition and awards for the quality of its manufactured products in recent years and continues to provide a valued service to its customers.
